Meal allowance increases in Portugal starting from January 2026📆

💶 The meal allowance is a salary supplement intended to compensate employees for the cost of a daily meal. 🍱

Here are the reference values for tax exemption limits in the public sector, which may also apply to the private sector, in accordance with Ordinance No. 51-B/2026/1 of January 30:

☑️ Payment by cash — 6,15€
☑️ Payment by meal ticket –10,46€

⚠️ Keep in mind: this is the maximum tax-free limit, not a mandatory increase.
